No, but it's about a twenty minute drive up on I-35 and actually it is only two blocks from the I-35 access Rd
No, just gumbo, rice and beans, po boys and fried fish and shrimp. Very limited menu, but good
Yes they are. I just went last week.
No
Michael Ramirez unlikely... but I would call.
Yes has sweet potatoes, delicious bread pudding with the rum sauce!
My Godmothers restaurant has closed on Monday and Tuesdays for over 35 years, Although she is closed she contributes meals, and beads, her time talent and treaures to organizations that are having events And she is almost 90 years old.

Let’s start with the service and hospitality. Everyone I encountered was very friendly, and the service was spot on - no complaints in that department at all. I had the the red beans and rice with sausage ($7.99) and although it was good, it was just a little bland. I added a boudin sausage link on the side for an additional $4.75 (ouch). The inside decor has a really casual, homey, type of vibe to it that I really enjoyed. It’s also very clean. So, let me cut to the chase. Great place, decent red beans and rice, and just “ok” boudin (and pricey boudin at that). I’d recommend the red beans and rice as a side dish, but not as the main entree.I’ll return when I’m in the area but I’ll probably venture up and down the menu and try something different next time.Tip: You can get pints or quarts of gumbo to go.
This place was amazing! Don’t let the bad pictures fool you, the food is top notch! I went in by myself for lunch, ordered the Shrimp PoBoy, and the place was packed minutes later. Yes, the food took a while, maybe 30 minutes, but a true 5 star experience. The decor fits a hole in the wall Creole restaurant, but their sanitation score was A/98. Reasonable prices, $8-$15 per person.
The food was AMAZING !!! Ma & her husband are extremely sweet and make sure your food is exactly what you wanted before you even leave the restaurant. I had ordered take out and got 1 quart of gumbo , a fish plate & a shrimp plate both with red beans. The food was FRESH & HOT ! This is a small friendly local black business I will continue to support.
You gotta love Ma Harper. She's been doing this for a long time. Love the Creole cooking there!
Amazing food, service and experience. Recommend the red beans and rice with sausage...my wife got it and I wish I had ordered it, although my fried pork chop was great too. They also give you cornbread which was so flavorful. We will visit again!
This place is for lack of better words, simply spectacular. The ambience and vibe is great. From the decor to the quality of the service and food is an overall 5 stars. Ma Harper food will meet all your expectations. Start your visit with their swamp water, which taste delicious. The award winning food will take you straight to New Orleans. This place reminds me of that part in the movie ratatouille in which the reviewer taste the food and he was taken to his childhoods food, that exactly how I felt. I highly recommend this place.
Wait a while to visit after the media hype. The staff is super sweet but were clearly trying their best despite some impatient customers. We were very patient and ended up getting cold red beans and rice. The waiter was sweet and took it back and brought out a hot order. Our tea was never refilled and they were out of several menu items. God bless Ma Harper and her crew. Maybe just wait a while until things slow down.
Some friends bought me here for lunch. Turns out the food is really DELICIOUS. I would totally recommend others to at least try once here.Pro: Taste great, fast service, really friendly staffCon: portion is a little small for me I had to order twice
Food made to order was well worth the wait..ordered and came to our table at a respectable 15min. But GOODNESS! AMAZING PORKCHOP!
Ma Harper cracks me up! She’s a feisty lady but also very sweet! This place has amazing Cajun food. The best in the city! I’ve tried everything on the menu over the years. The pork chop and crawfish (when in season - New Orleans style too) are my favorite dishes! You can also bring in your own beer or wine!! I love this place especially Ma Harper. You should definitely try it out!!
Awesome mom and pop restaurant right outside Ft Sam Houston in Historic Government Hill. Service was quick. The food came out piping hot and the perfect amount of seasoning on the fish fry. Definitely stop here if you’re in the area!
I went in for lunch on a Wednesday and the place had three customers besides myself. They already had their orders. I sat there for eight minutes, while the four waitresses talked amongst themselves And to the other diners. Finally one came over and asked me what drink I wanted. After she brought my tea, no one EVER came back to my table. I sat there for 27 minutes and was totally ignored. I heard the owner telling the waitresses not to be rude to customers. But I was the only white person in the restaurant and they were discriminating against me obviously. I won't be back. Plenty of other Cajun food places that will take my money
With good creole cooking at a great price, Ma Harper's is a low key fixture of the east side and should be respected as such. The gumbo, red beans and rice, and corn bread are all on point. Seating is somewhat limited and parking is as well. Be sure to order both and entree and desert for the full experience!
I Love the food. A great family business, and I love Moma harper she has a beautiful spirit and smile. ❤😇
Shrimp po boy made to order. Came out hot and fresh, ready to be devoured. Great little spot for some good grub
I walked into a friendly and warm environment. All of the staff was very welcoming. I feel you should only eat in the restaurant. Ordering food to go is a bit inefficient. I waiting approximately 30 minutes for an order of gumbo and catfish. The Gumbo is great and the catfish was seasoned well. However, I was not a fan of cornbread or red beans and rice. Will return to get some gumbo.
Owner was at the door and was rude, even annoyed that we were there in our scrubs! We’re frontline workers and we’re treated like criminals off the street! She rushed us to a booth then we never got service ! No menu or even a hello for 15 min. We left!! Will never go back and with that attitude you don’t deserve frontline workers in your establishment
Fabulous Cajun Food! I absolutely love Ma Harper! The service is always great! A friend recommended this place SO VERY GLAD HE DID!! I feel like family not just a customer!! Ma Harper will have you laughing as well!!
Yes is certainly a gem within San Antonio! The menu is small but focused. Every item is bursting with flavor and taste just like you think a Creole meal should taste. The services are standing and you can generally feel that they care if you enjoy the food. I highly recommend this for anybody looking for a great meal in San Antonio.
